Tim Phillips, CPA
Tax Principal

Tim began his accounting career in 1971 after obtaining his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri.
As a Tax Principal, Tim is responsible for directing our International Tax consulting practice and IRS dispute resolution services. He also serves a wide range of clients with tax planning, compliance and consulting matters.
He previously served for 16 years in audit and management with the IRS, where he attained the position of Chief, Quality Review, Nashville District. Tim also served as the director of tax services for the Knoxville office of Coopers & Lybrand prior to joining Coulter & Justus in 1996.
He currently concentrates in the area of U.S. federal income taxation, with a focus on international tax matters for U.S. companies and investors with activities abroad as well as for foreign enterprises and individuals investing and doing business in the United States. Mr. Phillips has experience in cross-border transactions, and the formation and operation of cross-border joint ventures. He advises on the establishment or acquisition of foreign businesses by U.S. multinationals; foreign business and real estate investment in the United States; cross border licensing, foreign tax credit planning, transfer pricing, and the impact of tax treaties on U.S. and foreign taxpayers.
Mr. Phillips has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) since 1987, and the AICPA's Tax Section and Personal Financial Planning Section since 1995. He is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and served on its Taxation Committee 1990 -1996. He is also a member of the Florida Society of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). He has been a member of Enterprise Network Worldwide, LLC since 1998, and the 2006-2008 Chairman of the North American International Partners and a member of the International Executive Committee of GMN International. He has authored articles and lectured on various U.S. tax topics and the Tennessee State Franchise & Excise Tax, Tennessee Sales & Use Tax. Since 2005, he has frequently lectured both in the U.S. and abroad on U.S. taxation of international operations, and doing business in the United States, before professional accounting associations and at the University of Tennessee.
Tim is active in the community and is a current member and former board member of the Farragut Rotary Club.
